Shirley Gene Ball Williams, 86, of Lubbock, died peacefully and slipped into the arms of her Savior on Thursday, May 27, 2021.
Private graveside services will be Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the Crane County Cemetery in Crane, Texas. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Officiant at the graveside service will be Pastor Robert Wells from Hospice of Lubbock.
A memorial service for Shirley Williams will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2 in Bowman Chapel of First United Methodist Church, 1411 Broadway, Lubbock. Officiant will be Dr. Shera Atkinson of FUMC.
Shirley was born May 23, 1935 in Slaton, Texas to O.Z. and Jessie Lou Ball. Shirley grew up in Slaton, graduated from Slaton High School, worked for a few years as a nurse in Slaton, and then attended Texas Tech University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Her first teaching job was at West Ward Elementary School in Slaton, now named Cathelene Thomas Elementary School.
Shirley graduated from Texas Tech in 1967, and in August the same year, married James Bee Williams. He preceded her in death in1976.
She also taught in Lubbock, retiring from Cavazos Middle School after 35 years in public education.
Shirley is survived by her son, Brad Williams, of Plano; one niece; and two nephews.
