Sondra Smith Obituary

Sondra Kaye Smith, 79, of Slaton, Texas, entered the loving arms of our Father on the 20th of April, 2023.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 10:30 am at Englunds Chapel in Slaton, Texas. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Kaye was born on April 1, 1944 in Fort Worth, Texas to Louis Thomas Kincer and Dorothy Dale Daniel Kincer. Kaye graduated from Slaton High School in 1962 and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Amarillo, Texas before later moving home to Slaton. On the birth of her daughters, Kaye took care of her home, kids, and served as a volunteer for many local organizations. Kaye spent 12 years on the Board for Slaton Independent School District as well as serving as President of the South Plains School Board Association.

Kaye enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, hosting gatherings, and anything that brought the people she loved together. Kaye cherished her many dear friends, several of whom she has remained close to since childhood. She spent the last few years in Levelland, Texas where she formed many more special bonds. Kaye always made time to be with her friends, and whether there was a high or a low, she was steadfast, making sure no one was short on love or laughter.

Known as KK to her grandchildren, she cherished her time with them. She was always playing in the floor with them, dancing, and taking every opportunity to make her deep love known. In 2002, a tragic car accident left her physically challenged, but she was a determined spirit and still made the most of her time with grandchildren and later, her great-grandchildren.

Kaye is preceded in death by her father, L.T. Kincer, her mother, Dorothy Kincer, her brother, Denny Kincer, and her husband, Giles Smith. She is survived by her brother, Dale Kincer and his wife Carole, of Lubbock; daughter, Annette Sykora and her husband Patrick of Levelland; daughter, Susan Tant of Wolfforth; her step-son Mark Smith of Prosper; step-son David Smith and his wife Kate, of Austin; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Haylee Boyd, her husband, Zachary, and their children, Fischer and Collins; Nicole Campbell, her husband, Tell, and their children, Morgan and Clara; Hannah Grigsby, her husband Ian, and their daughter, Sloan; Holden Sykora; Ryan Sykora; Avery Payne, her husband Adam; Cameron Smith; Spencer Smith; Christopher McSpadden; Markus Smith; and Ryan Smith. Kaye is also preceded and survived by many friends, whom she loved deeply.

The family suggests memorials be made to Weekend Snack Sack Program in Slaton, Bill’s Backpacks Levelland, Snack Pack 4 Kids Plainview or your favorite charity.
