Steve was born on July 1st, 1954, to Timothy and Peggy Finney, as the second of four siblings, 2 sisters, Jana D and Patti and brother Joe. Steve adored his family, his siblings and his nieces and nephews in Houston with all his heart. The “sisters” were one of his greatest joys, especially in his last chapter of life.

Born and raised in Houston Texas, Steve graduated from Pasadena High School and received a full scholarship to play basketball at Brazos Port Junior College. Steve was a magnetic presence and lit up every room he entered. After college Steve was hired into a sales role at Air Vent Awning in Houston and fell in love with sales. Steve had a dedicated 50-year career as a gifted salesman and adored helping people however he could. Any way he could help make someone's life better, overflowed his cup.

Steve was loved by so many and was surrounded by countless friends almost all the time, but he will most be remembered for his unwavering, deep love for his children, Meredith and Jon. If you knew Steve at all, there was nothing more important to him than his children. The honor of his life was being their Dad. His sacrifices, love and adoration for his children were known by all who knew him. Steve loved his “bonus kids” Kaylee and Cody like they were his own.

Steve was a lover of life, he loved spending time hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was a sports enthusiast from day one, falling in love with baseball as a toddler. There is nothing Steve loved more than every moment of coaching and watching his son Jon play baseball. In fact, if you ever talked with Steve, it's likely you were gifted with an at-length, play by play of one of Jon’s games. He largely credited his little league coaching to Jon’s collegiate baseball career. Steve had the spiritual gift of encouragement. He was famous for giving 1000 percent of himself for the people he loved. Whether driving across the state to be in the back row of a funeral or being the first person at the hospital, if someone he loved was in need Steve gave his entire self.

Steve adored and was adored by his loving wife, Coni. Throughout Steve’s recent health challenges, the unwavering strength and love of their marriage carried him through until the end.

In his last chapter of life, he was beloved “Pops” to his 4 grandchildren and 5 bonus grandchildren - the joy they brought him kept him going in his last days. On the last day of his life, Steve was able to meet and hold his newest granddaughter, Emma. The family wants to extend special gratitude to the Intensive Care Unit team at UMC for making the exception of allowing this beautiful, lasting moment to happen in the ICU. “Pops” deep love and hilarious, fun spirit will live on forever in the hearts of his children and grandchildren who adored him.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents Timothy and Peggy Finney, his brother Joe Finney and his nephew Ross Jarrell. He is survived by his wife Coni, his daughter Meredith Mallory and husband Aaron, children Mac and Emma; his son Jon Nevill Finney and wife Morgan, children Nevill and Annette. Bonus children Kaylee and Walker Hale, children Hallie, Hunter and future child expected in March; Cody and Raquel Campbell; children Elida, Ricky and Elsie. He is also survived by his sister Patti (Grady), sister Jana (Russell) and many beloved nieces; nephews; and his father-in-law, Danny Davis.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Ben Hirsch for his exceptional care of Steve, Dr. Stephen Gates and the ICU and Palliative care teams at University Medical Center.

In gratitude for the exceptional care Steve received, memorials honoring him can be made to University Medical Center Foundation - https://www.umchealthsystem.com/giving/give-now/, in memory of: Steve Finney, designation: area of greatest need.
