Susan Hernandez Guzman Obituary

Susan Hernandez Guzman, 80, of Wilson, passed away at her home in Wilson on Saturday, January 10, 2026.


Viewing will be 11:00 am – 6:00 pm Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Englunds Chapel, followed by a Rosary Service at 6:00 pm.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am Friday, January 16, 2026 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Wilson.  Interment will follow at Green Memorial Cemetery in Wilson.  Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.


Susan was born on August 31, 1945 in Thorndale, Texas to Abelino Hernandez, Sr.  and Florencia Ortiz Hernandez. She married John T. Guzman, Jr. on November 18, 1968 in Tahoka. Susan had worked at Texas Instruments, Coca-Cola, St. Joseph School, and at the Mercy Center in Slaton. She was a seamstress and enjoyed making dresses and outfits for her grandchildren in the Ballet Folklorico. She was an extremely active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church as a CCE lecturer, choir singer, and decorating for the liturgical seasons and was a Guadalupana.  She started a preschool program at Blessed Sacrament that ran for 5 years. She was a homemaker who loved music, dancing, and traveling. Primarily,  she loved the gatherings with her family.  She enjoyed buying extra plants and caring for them but we must not forget her thrift store treasures.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Johnny Michael Guzman; her granddaughter, Naomi Rios; her brother, Arnold Hernandez; her son-in-law, Anthony Wissler; and her sisters, Manuela Garza, Consuelo Villarreal and Dolores Guzman.  


Susan is survived by her husband; her daughters, Patricia Picon (Frank) of Lubbock, Margaret Wissler of Lubbock and Christina Caballero (Michael) of Lubbock; her son, Johnny Albert Guzman (Kami) of Princeton, Indiana; her sisters, Dora Perez of Victoria, Guadalupe Navarro of San Angelo, Juana Pena of Wilson, and Florencia Thompson of Goliad; her brother Abelino Hernandez Jr. of Dade City, Florida; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
