Susi Berta Obituary

Susi Emma Berta, age 75, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 10, 2021 in Slaton. Susi was born April 3, 1946 in New York City to Karl and Margaret Stampp. In 1967 she married Jeffrey Berta who would become her loving husband for 50 years, preceding her in death in 2017.

Susi is survived her daughter, Heidi Wilson, her husband Andy and their two children Davis and Keller; son, Karl Berta, his wife Tracey and their three children Addison, Jake, and Koyt; and son Jordan Berta. She is also survived by her brother and his wife, Robert Stampp and Bonnie, numerous nieces and nephews.

Known for her effervescent, sweet, and kind presence, Susi brought joy to family, friends, and students. As a history professor at Dallas Baptist University and children’s minister for many years, Susi’s passion for knowledge, specifically world and ancient history, as well as a lifelong love of education was infectious and inspiring. She loved all living things, befriending every person she encountered, cherished her water aerobics students at The Summit, and bestowed names and personalities on any animal or pet, or puppet, she met. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Matt. 19:14

A celebration of Susi’s life will be held at Dallas Baptist University Gaston Chapel (located in the Vance Library of the Collins Learning Center) on June 15, 2021, at 2 pm. Susi will rest beside Jeff at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
