Valentina Martinez, 80, of Lubbock, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 surrounded by her family. We are honored by the love and prayer that surrounded her from near and far.
Rosary will be said at 6:00 pm, Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Englunds Chapel. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, June 20, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lubbock. Arrangements are made through Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton, Texas.
Valentina was born on February 14, 1945 in Slaton to Victoriano and Bentura Ybarra. She graduated from Slaton High School and later moved to Lubbock. In the mid 70’s, she went to work for Texas Instruments and remained there when it became X-Fab. Valentina retired in March of 2024. She loved to cook delicious meals for her family, read and watch mystery movies. She also enjoyed going to her family’s sporting events and playing games like Soduku. Valentina was the most dedicated mother and sister. She was also blessed with many friends who became family. Her family and many friends knew her as Grammy.
Valentina was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Angelita Flores, Magdalena Ybarra and Yolanda Ybarra, and her brother, Tiodoro Ybarra.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Martinez, Mari Martinez and Erica Garcia, three sons in love that she cared for as her own Fidel Duron, Santos Escobedo and Matthew Garcia, all of Lubbock; her sisters, Martina Ybarra, Celia Ybarra, Maria Vigil and her husband, Homero, all of Slaton; her brothers, Felipe Ybarra and his wife, Olga, Leandro Ybarra all of Lubbock and Domingo Ybarra of Grand Island, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Micaela Salinas (Luis), Jaden Garcia (Kathryn), Caleb Duron (Aubrie), Macey Garcia, Jacob Garcia, and Claudia Duron; and two great-grandchildren, Italia Martinez and Nolan’Ace Salinas.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses that supported the family during this journey especially Teresa from Gentiva Hospice. We are so grateful for your sincere and gentle guidance. Thank you.
