Virginia Gentry, 96, of Slaton, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023.
Viewing will be 11:00-6:00 Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Englunds, followed by a visitation 6:00-7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Englunds Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Southland.
Virginia was born September 21, 1926 in Garza County on the family farm to Forrest Lee and Effie Jewel Ward. She graduated from Southland High School in 1943 and married Robert Edgar Mock on September 7, 1944. She attended Draughn’s Business College in 1943 and worked for Wylie’s Drug Store and also as a waitress at the Hilton Hotel. In 1965, she went to Cosmetology school and worked as a hair stylist until she retired in 2010 at the age of 84. She loved to travel and play slot machines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Robert Lee Mock; her stepson, Stephen Gentry; and her step-son-in-law, Mark Stanfield.
Virginia is survived by her son, David Mock of Slaton; her daughter, Barbara Ann Gossett of Post; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; her stepdaughter, Melva Stanfield; her daughter-in-law, Carylon Mock; her step-daughter-in-law, Marie Gentry; and her step-grandsons, Brian and Chris Gentry.
Virginia had requested that there be no flowers and this sentiment is supported by her family. They suggest memorials may be made to the Slaton Senior Center, Slaton Meals on Wheels, or the Resthaven Cemetery of Southland Association, P. O. Box 262, Slaton, Texas 79364.
