Walter Weighill, 81, of Lubbock, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.
Visitation will be 6:00-7:00 pm Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Englunds. Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Bible Baptist Church in Slaton. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Walter was born May 10, 1940 in Barre, Massachusetts to Walter and Elizabeth Weighill. He was 50 % Native American, the oldest remaining Elder of the Chumash Tribe. He married Delores Howard, whom he always affectionately called “his bride” on May 19, 1967, and they enjoyed nearly 28 years of marriage before her passing in 1995. He was a truck driver while raising his family and hauled loads all across America and Canada. Delores was able to travel with him on many of those trips. Walter loved his grandchildren and spending time with them. He also loved his dogs and loved to read.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; and one brother, Irven Weighill.
Walter is survived by his daughters, Shelby Means and her husband, Clay of Slaton, Shannon Weighill and Dewayne Coon of Slaton, Loretta Edwards of Lubbock, and Pamela Benedum of Buttonwillow, CA; his sons, Irven Weighill and his wife Kandice of Lubbock, Walter Weighill of Lewistown, CA, Tharon Weighill of Redding, CA, and Gary Childers of El Paso; his sister, Helen Rivera of Santa Barbara, CA; his brothers, Jim Weighill, Carl Easter, Tommy Easter, and Butch Ruiz, all of CA; 32 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
