Weldon Self Obituary

Squeaky Self, 77, of Slaton passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

Viewing will be 10-1 and 3-6 on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Englunds.  Funeral Services will be 3:00 pm Sunday, January 3, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Slaton. Social distancing and masks are required.  Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service. The service my be viewed on Englunds Facebook page. 

Squeaky was born on November 2nd, 1943 in Big Spring to Oscar and Georgia Self. He graduated from Coahoma High School in Coahoma, Texas. He moved to Lubbock and went to work for Pioneer Natural Gas, now Atmos. He moved to Slaton in the late 60’s. Squeaky married Sandy Brush on August 4th, 1974. He retired from Atmos in 1998. He kept busy in his remaining years working as a building inspector for a year or so, then for Books and Fun, as a manager with Sandy at The Harvey House, and most recently at Bownds Body Shop. He was a big part of the community in Slaton, serving as City Commissioner since May of 2013 and as a member of Slaton Lions Club for over 20 years. Squeaky loved woodworking as well. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Everett, Myron, Bobby and Johnny Mac Self.

Squeaky is survived by his wife, Sandy of Slaton; his daughters, Patty McMillan and husband, Rodger of San Antonio; Beth Walbrick and husband, Rick of Levelland; his son, Shane Self and wife, Joy of Amarillo; his sisters, Bell Fowler of Coahoma, Dorothy Fay Rucker of Houston and Carolyn Holley of Greenville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

The family suggest memorials be made to Slaton Meals on Wheels.
