Wiley Etheredge Obituary

Wiley Rex Etheredge, 64, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2020 at the Slaton Care Center following a brief illness.

Rex was born on March 21, 1955 in Midland, Texas to Wiley J and Lois Pauline Norwood Etheredge.  He was the oldest of three boys. Through the years they lived in Texas, New Mexico and South Carolina.

In his earlier years, Rex worked alongside his father at Whites Auto in Slaton. You could often find Rex riding his motorcycle to work from their home in Ransom Canyon to the store.  He never met a stranger and was always happy to help the customers.

After his father retired, Rex moved with his parents to Charlotte, North Carolina.  They lived there for a few years before they moved back to Texas and resided in the beautiful hill country.  They lived on five acres of land in Llano.  Rex enjoyed riding four wheelers and tending to the chickens.  Rex was a member of the Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church.  He attended there regularly.

In 2011 Rex moved to Fort Mill, South Carolina.  There he loved attending Clemson and Carolina Panther games.  A few times a week Rex looked forward to going to the Fort Mill Care Center, where he made many friends and participated in fun activities. He also enjoyed spending time at Fripp Island with brother, Howard and sister-in-law Liz and family. While visiting Slaton during the summers he worked at United as a sacker part time.  In 2018 he moved back to Texas.  This would be his final resting place.

Rex had a passion for animals and was a great caretaker to many pets over the years.  Football was his favorite sport.  He was a longtime fan of the Dallas Cowboys, win or lose.  He could tell you anything and everything you wanted to know about the team, the coaches and their record.  He liked dancing and could certainly cut a rug.  He was loved by many.

Rex is survived by a brother, Paul Etheredge and wife Brooke of Slaton, sister-in-law Liz Etheredge of Fort Mill, South Carolina, four nieces, three nephews, one great-nephew, a large extended family in South Carolina and Texas and many, many friends.  Rex is preceded in death by his mother Pauline, father Wiley and brother Howard.

No funeral service will be held.  We will honor Rex’s memory by scattering his ashes in the places he loved most.
