William Jones

William Jones, 87, of Slaton passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020.

Following William’s wishes, the family will have a private graveside service on Saturday, December 19, 2020.  Viewing will be 9-5 on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service.

William was born on September 2, 1933 in Lubbock to Virgil and Leona Jones. He graduated from Slaton High School. William married Barbara Brooks on October 19, 1952 at Southland Baptist Church. They celebrated 64 years of marriage until her passing in 2017. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Slaton. He served as a deacon and on numerous committees, and taught Sunday School and a community bible study.  William farmed for many years. In 1986 he started working for Lubbock County Maintenance Precinct 2, retiring in 2000.

William is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Joe Bob Jones and Roy Jones; his sisters, Alene Latham, Linda Jones and Etta Bell Milliken; and his great-grandson, Xander Thomas Wade.

William is survived by his son, Bill Jones and his wife, Marilyn of Southland; his daughters, Glenna Applewhite and her husband, Marc of Lubbock and Melissa Applewhite and her husband, Max of Blooming Groove; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
